Ormolu entered European interiors as the definitive luxury surface treatment — gilt-bronze mounts applied to furniture, clocks, and fixtures in 17th century French palace interiors establishing a material vocabulary whose warm gold depth and surface conviction no subsequent finish has credibly surpassed.
