What's the minimum ceiling height needed for the CX1903 to look right?Honestly, Aurient needs a pretty high ceiling to look its best - it's designed to be a double-height fixture, so a minimum ceiling height of 16 feet is recommended. For houses with two floors or big hotel atriums, 18-22 feet is ideal - this way the full two-tier gradient looks its best from the ground up. If you're installing in a staircase, make sure the light's centred over the stairs, and adjust the drop to make sure it doesn't get in the way across the landings.
How do you size the circular plate on the ceiling, and can you adjust the rod length to fit different ceilings? The circular plate on top is designed to hold all the rods in place evenly, and the rods themselves are adjustable at installation to make sure they fit the right height for your ceiling. Just keep in mind that if you've got a really custom ceiling - sloping, coffered or recessed, say - you should give the Lumeil team a shout before you order - we want to make sure the rods are calibrated properly and the load is distributed safely.
How does Aurient fit in with both modern and classic interior designs?Well, the iron-gold base and amber glass tier do have a bit of a classic chandelier feel to it, which makes it a great fit for traditional interior schemes. But the triangular panels and amethyst lower tier have a really modern, contemporary feel to them - it's a bit of a balancing act, but it works. We think it's a great 'bridge piece' - comfortable in a heritage hotel dining room as it would be in a modern duplex drawing room.
What kind of light bulb will help the amber-to-amethyst gradient work best?Warm white at 2700K is our top tip - this keeps the amber upper panels glowing warmly and richly, without losing that lovely violet tone in the lower panels. Avoid daylight-spectrum bulbs above 4000K - they just make the thing look all dull and grey.
Why is it called Opaline Crest?Glass gets its colour by adding metallic oxides in the making process - amethyst glass, to be specific, gets its lovely deep purple tone from manganese dioxide. And it's not just the amount of manganese that gives it that lovely colour - it how it affects light that really does the trick. When light passes through glass that's been infused with manganese, it picks up on the violet part of the spectrum and leaves the yellow wavelengths behind. That's why the violet glass seems to get even deeper in warm light - the contrast between the bits of light that are getting through and the bits that are being blocked out becomes even more pronounced, making the colour appear more intense rather than getting washed out.

A statement piece for contemporary and traditional rooms alike, built from materials chosen to last.

Two tones, one light fixture. Aurient CX1903 throws a conversation between warm amber and cool amethyst into high relief, starting at the ceiling and floating off into the air - in mid-air, you can almost imagine the two colours carrying on their chat. It suspends hand-textured triangular glass panels from fine iron-gold rods - each has a geometric pattern etched in, catching the light in different ways depending how you view it. From up high, the upper tier radiates a rich gold; the lower tier shifts over into a deep, cool violet - creating a colourful gradient that's impossible to replicate with paint or wallpaper. Without the lights on it just looks like a sculptural canopy - layered, winged and carefully planned. With the lights on, the textured glass scatters light in a fractured - almost overlapping - way across the ceiling and walls. This one's built for the seriously grand - luxury drawing rooms, hotel atriums and grand staircases where a light fixture really needs to make a statement, not just fill space.
