What's the minimum ceiling height I need for Glacial Flame? We've designed this for spaces with high ceilings - ideally a minimum of 15 to 20 feet of vertical clearnce. Any less than that and the vertical rhythm of the thing gets lost. But if you've got a 25-foot ceiling or more, we can make the rods longer to fill that space out properly.
Is the iron heavy, or does the icicle design keep the weight down?Yes, iron is dense but the tapered icicle design actually cuts the weight way down compared to something solid or a big chandelier. The rods are hollow-core, which keeps the weight down while still keeping it sturdy. We ship them with reinforced mounts that can handle big installations.
Can this thing work in a traditional setting, or is it strictly for modern spaces? We say it's modern but we've also tried to bring in some old-school elements too - the tiered thing is a bit like a traditional chandelier, but the material honesty and the geometric precision is very contemporary. In a traditional space it becomes a bit of a bold statement that says "modern" without being mean-spirited about it. It's not trying to be a classic chandelier - it's just redefining what vertical drama means.
Will this industrial iron thing work in a residential space? The answer is yes - but it all depends on the finish you choose. If you go for bronze or brushed gold it starts to feel a lot more refined and less industrial. In a residential space, the warmth of the finish can really help it blend in.
When did clear glass first start being used in chandelier designs, and what made it popular? You might know that icicles form because of something called "regelation" - water freezing, then melting a little from the warmth in the air, and then freezing off again as it trickles down. That's why icicles are always slightly irregular - the thinner the bit of ice, the faster the heat will get to it and make it melt a bit more. And that's exactly what we've done with Glacial Flame: we've taken that natural process and used it to create the irregualrities in the metal. We didn't just copy the shape of an icicle - we got the science behind it to create a piece that feels like it was made by nature, not just a machine. It's a piece of meta-materialism - taking the principles of the natural world and using them to create something that's uniquely industrial.

Iron that looks like ice - sharp, hanging down, cold as it is in shape yet warm as it is in finish. Glacial Flame is a striking fixture that puts iron rods into icicle form, each tapering down in a series of steps that draw the eye up through vertical space. No glass, no crystal - just iron that's been finished so it catches the light at the edges, creating the illusion of frozen brilliance without the need for any high shine materials. The contrast is quite deliberate - metal that looks almost delicate, industrial materials imitating the natural world - and that's the point: it's a sculpture that's industrial at heart but has organic hints to it. Left unlit it's a big industrial piece with some organic overtones, but as soon as you turn it on, the edges start to glow and the iron takes on this deep ,luminous quality, like water dripping down each rod and illuminating staircases and hotel atriums in all sorts of interesting ways. That's the beauty of Glacial Flame: it can take the industrial look of an Indian mall or duplex home and turn it on its head with sheer, unadorned drama.
