What height does a ceiling need to be for those spindles to actually work?Gravitas needs a ceiling that's at least 14 feet high - but really its best suited for ceilings that are between 16 & 22 feet high so it can really fill up the vertical space. In a staircase situation, you just need to make sure the bottom bits of the spindles are high enough so that people don't bang their heads on them - about 7.5 feet from the highest traffic point is a good rule of thumb. The wires can be adjusted - but you should probably check with Lumeil's tech team first to make sure you get it right.
How many spindles does the fixture have & what's the size of the ceiling plate?Well the CX1909 has dozens of spindles hanging from a big round ceiling plate that's got the lights in it to shine on each of the spindles from above. The number of spindles and the size of the plate both vary depending on the specific setup you want - Lumeil can even do custom versions for hotels and duplexes with a specific spread or density in mind. But - and this is really important - you need to get a qualified engineer to check the ceiling can handle the weight of the thing before you try to put it up.
Can Gravitas work in modern schemes and also in rooms that have a bit old & new mixed in together? The chrome & iron bits in Gravitas look right at home in modern and industrial-style spaces - no decorations, very clean lines. But in places that are a bit of a mix between old & new - the smoked glass bit is a real lifesaver - it brings a bit of warmth from old chandeliers but still keeps the lines of the spindles modern. It doesn't feel like its trying to be a throwback from one era in particular either.
What sort of atmosphere do a whole bunch of spindles create as opposed to a regular chandelier?Unlike a chandelier that just concentrates all the light on one bit of the ceiling, Gravitas spreads it all out - so every spindle has its own little pocket of light. That creates a real immersive feel - you can't have a lit corner - instead the whole space is lit. In a hotel lobby that creates a real impact when you come in - and in a residential space it can make that empty height not feel so empty any more.

A statement piece for contemporary and traditional rooms alike, built from materials chosen to last.

You'd think that the problem of an empty height would be something fixtures just gloss over. Not Gravitas CX1909 – it actually tackles the issue head on. A whole bunch of individually hand-cast iron spindles - each with a double tapered, flared in the middle, sharp on both ends - hang from a circular ceiling plate on fine wires at deliberately different lengths - filling up the vertical space in a double height room & not just a few lights scattered at the top. The smoked glass finish reflects any light and also the surrounding surfaces and its tone will change as the room itself changes throughout the day. When it's not lit, you get the impression it's some sort of kinetic sculpture - all chrome, very precise, with a quiet industrial feel. But when it's lit up from the downlights in the ceiling above, every single one of those spindles will catch and scatter the light in their own way making what was one fixture into a whole field of light & shadow moments. Its ideally suited to places like duplex living rooms, hotel lobbies and grand staircases where that empty height has been left to gather dust
