How long is Abacus from ceiling to base? The overall height is 1050mm, so over a kitchen island it suits ceilings of around 2.7m or more. Please confirm adjustment options with our team.
Will the light cause glare when seated at the island? The ash-tinted cup surrounds the LEDs, which cuts glare at eye level while the open base keeps the counter brightly lit.
Do the red and green beads light up?No. The beads are decorative glass on the rod; the light comes only from the cup at the base.
Does Abacus suit a bar or restaurant counter?Yes. Its narrow 150mm profile lets several hang close together along a counter without blocking the view across it.
Did You Know Fact About The CategoryIn November 1946, a contest was held in Tokyo between a Japanese post office clerk using a soroban, the Japanese abacus, and a US Army clerk using the latest electric calculator. Working through additions, subtractions, multiplications and divisions, the soroban won four of the five rounds, a result widely reported as a victory of beads over machinery.

A statement piece for contemporary and traditional rooms alike, built from materials chosen to last.

Abacus takes its name from the beads strung along its black rod, a red and a green glass bead spaced between flat black discs like counters waiting to be slid along a frame. The long, slender drop suits kitchen islands, stairwells, tall dining rooms and bar counters, especially hung in a row of three.

The rod and discs are metal in a black finish, with the red glass bead left smooth and the green bead textured with a fine raised pattern. At the base sits an ash-tinted glass cup, open at the top and rounded below, with the rod finishing just beneath it.

Two built-in 5W LEDs sit within the cup, so the smoked glass softens the glow while light falls straight down onto the counter. Over a dark stone island or along a bar, this hanging light marks each seat with its own pool of light.
