About Living Room Lights
The living room is where everyone gathers, so it needs more than one light. This collection brings together chandeliers, pendant lights, floor lamps and wall lights that work as layers: ambient light from the ceiling, task light for reading, and accent light for art and texture.
The ceiling light: add the room's length and width in feet for the chandelier diameter in inches; a 12 × 14 ft room suits about 26 inches (66 cm). Keep at least 7 ft (2.1 m) of clearance underneath. With ceilings of 8 ft or less, choose a flush or semi-flush piece instead.
The layers: add a floor lamp beside each main seat, and wall lights or a picture light to lift the walls. Warm white, 2700 to 3000 K, keeps the room relaxed; dimmers let the same room work for guests and for a quiet evening.
