Description

The Blue Tide takes its name from the sweeping curved wave form from which its central figure emerges, a high-gloss cobalt blue sculptural female body rising upward from a curling iron base with arms raised overhead, hands cupped around a large frosted glass globe at its crown, while two smaller frosted glass globes nest within the open cradle of the wave at mid and lower height, functioning as a room light lamp with three light sources distributed vertically across the full height of the sculpture. It suits drawing rooms, living rooms, and hotels where a floor lamp is required to serve as a primary figurative centrepiece.

The figure and wave base are fabricated from iron art in a high-gloss cobalt blue finish with a smooth, light-reflective surface throughout. The three frosted glass globes are set at the crown, mid-wave, and lower wave positions, each on its own socket, producing illumination at three distinct vertical levels simultaneously. The stainless steel internal armature provides structural support to the upward-reaching composition.

Light is emitted omnidirectionally from each of the three frosted glass globes as a stand light, with the uppermost globe casting the highest output across drawing room and living room ceilings, and the two lower globes producing a warm ambient pool across the immediate floor level.

The wave form that constitutes the lower body and base of The Blue Tide belongs to one of the oldest compositional devices in figurative sculpture: the figura serpentinata, or serpentine figure, in which a form rotates and ascends simultaneously along a vertical axis, creating a sense of continuous upward movement when viewed from any angle. First theorised by the Flemish sculptor Giambologna in the sixteenth century, the serpentine figure was conceived specifically to compel the viewer to move around the work to see it fully, making it one of the earliest sculptural forms designed to activate the space around it rather than present a single frontal view. The Blue Tide's spiralling wave-to-figure form reactivates this centuries-old compositional logic in a contemporary cobalt blue finish.
